Dedicated to Maa Harachandi (Goddess Durga), the Harachandi Temple in Puri is a small yet an important place of worship in the city. Built over a small hill, the temple, located on the Puri-Konark road, faces the scenic Puri sea beach. The temple receives devotees all round the year. However, during the winter months this number increases as more locals and tourists visit the temple to relax in its peaceful ambience.
Architecture of Harachandi Temple Puri
The entrance gate of the shrine features sculptures of two lions and two gatekeepers on its either side, followed by small sitting areas on each side. This area leads to a flight of steps, either side of which are tall trees and lush foliage. At the end of the steps, there is a small gate that leads to the temple premise. In the middle of it lies the cream-colored Harachandi Temple.
The main temple features statues of two lions, represented as guards of the temple. The top of its entrance door has elaborate carvings on it. The temple has a prayer hall and adjoined to it is the main sanctum. The spire of the main sanctum resembles the Kalinga temple style of architecture.

There is no entry fee to visit the Harachandi Temple in Puri. The shrine remains open on all days from 6 am till 8 pm.
How to reach Harachandi Temple Puri
The Harachandi Temple is located at a distance of about 4 km from the Puri Railway Station and around 2.6 km from the Puri Bus Stand. Local buses, private taxis, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are easily accessible from the railway station and the bus stand till the Harachandi Temple.
The closest airport to the city of Puri is the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. It is located at a distance of about 60 km. Tourists planning to visit Puri can book their flights till Bhubaneswar. On reaching the Bhubaneswar airport, they can hire private taxis from top car rental companies in Bhubaneswar to directly head to Puri. Alternatively, they can book train tickets to Puri from the Bhubaneswar Railway Station or board a bus from the bus stand, right next to the railway station. It takes only an hour to reach Puri by train or bus.
