Sudarshan Crafts Museum is a popular tourist attraction to visit in Puri, Odisha. Established by famous sculptor Sudarshan Sahoo, the museum houses a brilliant collection of sculptures, handicrafts items, carvings on stone and wood, fiberglass and paintings. Sudarshan Sahoo was awarded India’s second highest civilian award – Padma Vibhushan in 2021 and India’s fourth highest civilian award – Padma Shri in 1988.

History of Sudarshan Crafts Museum Puri
Sudarshan Sahoo, a non-traditional sculptor, is known for his great contribution to sculpture art in India. In his early days, he practiced the art form on wood and stone at his ancestral home in Puri. After having traveled the length and breadth of India and understanding the various facets of sculpture art of different regions, he decided to set up a workshop and a showroom, where artists can create their own artwork and put it on display for art lovers.
In 1977, he along with other contemporary artists established this museum that so far has helped many artists develop into established sculptors. The museum has been exporting handicrafts outside India for many years now and has been supported and recognized by the Government.
Architecture of Sudarshan Crafts Museum Puri
An important attraction of the museum is the Buddhist temple inside it. Built in Japanese architectural style, this temple serves as the craft center for the artists. Besides the temple, there is a library, workshop, showroom as well training and residential facilities in the premises.

The entry fee to visit the museum is Rs. 5 for Indians and Rs. 50 for foreign nationals. The museum remains open from Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 8 pm.
