Mahatma Gandhi Park is a public park, located close to the sea beach in Puri, Odisha. Established and maintained by National Aluminum Company (NALCO) India, this park is dedicated to the father of the nation – Mahatma Gandhi.
A popular attraction of the city, the park receives a number of visitors throughout the year. Locals visit the park daily to jog, walk and exercise during the early hours of the mornings and in the evenings. The park overlooks the sea beach and its view from the watchtower inside the park is simply awe-inspiring.
Architecture of Mahatma Gandhi Park Puri
This well-maintained park, spread over a wide area, has a wonderful architecture featuring trees and lush gardens that are enhanced further by beautiful flowering plants, hedges and landscape pathways. On the right side part of the park is the Watch Tower with two levels. Amazing vistas of the beach and the vast sea beyond it can be thoroughly enjoyed from here.
Right in the middle of the park, a big statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been installed on a raised platform, which is surrounded by a number of colorful flower plants. Beyond this statue, a huge bronze bell can be seen hanging to a rather big gateway, whose top resembles the spire of a temple.
On each side of the gateway, the famous Konark chakras have been designed on the walls. When looked from a distance, the gateway and the chakras resemble a chariot, probably in the lines of the Rath Yatra, the city is known for. This gateway leads to the sea beach; however, entry through this gate is prohibited.
On the left hand side of the park, there is a designated play area for the children featuring a swing, see-saw, slide and merry-go-round. Just next to this area, exercise equipment for adults has been installed. Just ahead, a fountain has been set up that is operational in the evenings.

There is no entry fee to visit the Mahatma Gandhi Park in Puri. The park remains open on all days of the week, from 6 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 7.30 pm.
How to reach Mahatma Gandhi Park Puri
The Mahatma Gandhi Park is located at a prominent location of the city of Puri. It lies about 2.2 km away from the Puri Railway Station and around 2.3 km from the Puri Bus Stand. Auto rickshaws, battery-operated rickshaws and private taxis can be easily availed from both the railway station and the bus stand to reach the park in a short time.
The nearest airport to the park is the Biju Patnaik International Airport, about 60 km away, in Bhubaneswar. Tourists upon reaching the Bhubaneswar airport can hire a private taxi from top car rental companies in Bhubaneswar to travel to Puri or alternatively, head to the Bhubaneswar Railway Station to board a train to Puri or take a bus from the bus stand close to the railway station.
