The ISKCON Temple in Puri, also known as Sri Sri Radha Giridhari Mandir, is devoted to Lord Krishna. The shrine houses idols of Lord Krishna, Lord Balaram and Devi Subhadra in the main sanctum. There are idols of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Sachidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura in sitting posture, next to each other, in the prayer hall. The temple is famous for its sacred Mangal Aarti, performed in the morning and Sandhya Aarti, performed in the evening.

History of ISKCON Temple Puri

A number of festivals are celebrated in this temple including Guru Purnima, Jagannath Rath Yatra, Nityananda Trayodashi, Gaura Purnima, Diwali, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Jayanti, Radhashtami, Ram Navami, Govardhan Puja and many others. Devotees come in large numbers to take part in these festivities.

Architecture of ISKCON Temple Puri

The temple is a three-storey, pink-colored structure with a beautifully crafted entrance door, featuring two intricately-designed pillars. Inside the temple, there is a prayer hall featuring the sitting idols of Sachidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura and A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada installed inside a small carved sanctum structure.

At the end of the prayer hall lies the main sanctum, where three mesmerizing idols of Lord Krishna in the middle and Devi Subhadra and Lord Balaram on either side have been installed. The sanctum is well lit and decorated, with its entrance door featuring golden-colored decorative at the top and on the sides.

After paying their respects to the deities at the temple and enjoying the sanctity of the place, tourists can explore some other important attractions of Puri including the scenic Puri Beach, where they can spend leisure time, relaxing and unwinding at the beachfront.

A must-visit in the city is the famous and ancient Jagannath Temple, which receives thousands of devotees on a daily basis. There are some other important attractions that can be visited while in Puri including Lokanath Temple, Swargadwar Sea Beach, Narendra Pokhari, Sudarshan Crafts Museum, Mahatma Gandhi Park and many more.

There is no entry free to visit the ISKCON Temple in Puri. It remains open all days of the week from 4.30 am till 1 pm and then from 4.15 pm till 9 pm.

How to reach ISKCON Temple Puri

The temple is located at an approximate distance of 3.8 km from the Puri Bus Stand and about 3.6 km from the Puri Railway Station. Private taxis, auto rickshaws and battery-operated rickshaws can be availed easily both from the bus stand and the railway station to reach here. Puri does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport to the city is the Biju Patnaik International Airport, about 60 km away in Bhubaneswar.

From the Bhubaneswar airport, tourists can hire private taxis from the list of top car rental companies in Bhubaneswar to reach Puri in an hour or so. Alternatively, they can head to the Bhubaneswar Railway Station to catch a train to Puri or board a bus from the main part of the city till Puri.
